Guide Catheter

Category

Interventional Cardiology Endovascular

Typical Use

Provide support and conduit for diagnostic and therapeutic catheters during vascular interventions.

Description

A rigid or semi rigid catheter advanced from an access site to the target vessel ostium to provide stable support and a working channel for guidewires, microcatheters, and devices during coronary, peripheral, or neurovascular interventions. Guide catheter selection considers vessel anatomy, backup support, and device compatibility to optimize procedural success and reduce the risk of vessel trauma or loss of access. Operators must manage catheter torque, contrast injection, and hemodynamic effects while monitoring for complications such as dissection or thrombosis; meticulous technique and imaging guidance are essential for safe endovascular therapy.
