Diagnostic Imaging
Typical Use
Obtain radiographs at bedside or in OR.
Description
Mobile radiography systems that allow acquisition of chest, extremity, and intraoperative radiographs at the bedside, in emergency settings, or in operating rooms where patient transport is impractical or risky. Portable X ray units provide rapid imaging for line placement confirmation, fracture assessment, and acute chest evaluation, but require attention to radiation safety for staff and bystanders through shielding and distance. Image quality may be lower than fixed radiography units, so positioning and technique are important to optimize diagnostic yield. Proper documentation, image transfer to PACS, and correlation with clinical findings ensure appropriate use of portable radiography.
