Typical Use
Provide short term gastric decompression, feeding, or medication delivery.
Description
A flexible tube inserted through the nose into the stomach for gastric decompression, enteral feeding, medication administration, or diagnostic sampling; placement confirmation by pH testing and radiography when indicated is critical to avoid pulmonary placement. NG tubes are used in acute care for bowel obstruction management, aspiration prevention, and temporary nutritional support, with attention to nasal care, securement, and monitoring for sinusitis or tube displacement. Selection of tube size and material depends on intended use and patient comfort considerations.
