Endovascular Access
Typical Use
Provide stable vascular access for catheters and devices during endovascular procedures.
Description
A short, hollow sheath inserted into an artery or vein to maintain access and allow repeated introduction and exchange of catheters, guidewires, and interventional devices while preserving hemostasis and minimizing vessel trauma. Introducer sheaths are available in multiple diameters and lengths with hemostatic valves and side ports for flushing and pressure monitoring, and are essential components of angiography, peripheral interventions, and transcatheter structural procedures. Proper insertion technique, anticoagulation management, and securement reduce complications such as bleeding, arterial dissection, or infection, and sheath removal protocols include hemostasis strategies and monitoring for limb perfusion.
