Typical Use
Occlude bleeding vessels or reduce blood flow to lesions.
Description
Small metallic coils delivered through microcatheters to occlude arteries or arterioles for control of hemorrhage, preoperative devascularization of tumors, or treatment of vascular malformations and aneurysms, achieving hemostasis by promoting thrombosis at the target site. Coil selection, packing density, and adjunctive embolic agents are tailored to vessel size and flow dynamics to achieve durable occlusion while preserving adjacent tissue perfusion when necessary. Embolization procedures require precise catheter positioning, imaging guidance, and postprocedure monitoring for ischemic complications and recurrence, and are integral to multidisciplinary management of bleeding and vascular lesions.
