Diagnostic Neurophysiology
Typical Use
Assess peripheral nerve and muscle function for neuropathy and myopathy diagnosis.
Description
A combined system that records electrical activity from muscles EMG and measures conduction velocity and amplitude of peripheral nerves using surface or needle electrodes to diagnose neuropathies, radiculopathies, neuromuscular junction disorders, and primary muscle disease. Nerve conduction studies quantify latency and velocity while EMG evaluates spontaneous and voluntary muscle activity; interpretation requires correlation with clinical exam and imaging. Testing involves patient cooperation, sterile technique for needle EMG, and skilled interpretation to guide diagnosis, prognosis, and management including referral for electrodiagnostic guided interventions.
