Renal Replacement Therapy Vascular Access
Typical Use
Provide high flow central venous access for hemodialysis or apheresis.
Description
A large bore, dual lumen central venous catheter placed in the internal jugular, femoral, or subclavian vein to enable high flow extracorporeal circulation for intermittent or continuous hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, or apheresis procedures. Dialysis catheters require strict aseptic insertion technique, securement, and catheter care protocols to reduce catheter related bloodstream infections and thrombosis, and long term dialysis access planning favors arteriovenous fistula or graft when feasible. Management includes monitoring for flow adequacy, catheter dysfunction, and timely replacement or conversion to permanent access as part of comprehensive renal care.
