Typical Use

Harvest split thickness skin grafts.

Description

A powered or manual instrument that harvests uniform thin slices of skin for split thickness grafting, commonly used in burn care, reconstructive surgery, and large wound coverage to provide donor tissue with predictable thickness and surface area. Dermatomes require careful adjustment of depth, speed, and blade tension to produce grafts that take well at the recipient site while minimizing donor site morbidity. Proper donor site preparation, hemostasis, and postoperative dressing of both donor and recipient sites are critical to graft survival and patient comfort. Operator training and device maintenance reduce complications such as irregular graft thickness, tearing, or infection.
