Cystoscope

Category

Endoscopy Urology

Typical Use

Visualize bladder and urethra; perform interventions.

Description

A rigid or flexible endoscope inserted through the urethra to visualize the urethra and bladder mucosa, obtain biopsies, remove stones, or place stents; cystoscopy is used for hematuria evaluation, recurrent urinary tract infections, and bladder tumor surveillance. Flexible cystoscopes allow office based procedures with local anesthesia, while rigid cystoscopes provide larger working channels for operative interventions under general or regional anesthesia. Proper sterile technique, irrigation management, and postprocedure monitoring for hematuria or infection are essential to patient safety. Cystoscopy findings guide urologic diagnosis and treatment planning and often require coordination with pathology and imaging studies.
