Typical Use

Scrape tissue from cavities or lesions.

Description

A spoon shaped instrument used to scrape or debride tissue from body cavities, lesions, or wounds, commonly employed in gynecology for uterine curettage, in dermatology for lesion removal, and in ENT for ear canal cleaning. Curettage allows targeted removal of abnormal tissue for diagnostic sampling or therapeutic debridement and is often combined with suction or irrigation to clear debris. Technique requires controlled pressure and awareness of underlying structures to avoid perforation or excessive bleeding, and specimens obtained should be handled appropriately for pathology. Postprocedure care includes hemostasis, infection prevention, and follow up to assess healing and pathology results.
