Cell Saver Autotransfusion System

Category

Perioperative Blood Management

Typical Use

Collect, process, and reinfuse the patients own blood during surgery.

Description

An intraoperative device that aspirates shed blood, filters and washes red blood cells, and returns concentrated autologous blood to the patient to reduce allogeneic transfusion requirements during major hemorrhagic procedures such as cardiac, vascular, and orthopedic surgery. Cell saver use requires anticoagulation management, sterile technique, and awareness of contraindications such as contamination with bowel contents or malignancy in some contexts; quality control and documentation of reinfused volumes are part of transfusion safety. Autotransfusion supports blood conservation strategies and may reduce transfusion related risks when used appropriately.
