Bronchial Stent

Category

Pulmonary Intervention

Typical Use

Maintain airway patency in malignant or benign central airway obstruction.

Description

Self expanding metallic or silicone stents deployed endoscopically to scaffold narrowed tracheobronchial segments caused by tumor, strictures, or external compression, restoring airflow and relieving dyspnea when resection is not feasible. Stent selection, sizing, and placement technique are tailored to lesion location and expected duration of need, and postdeployment care includes surveillance for migration, granulation tissue, and infection. Multidisciplinary planning with interventional pulmonology, thoracic surgery, and oncology optimizes palliative or bridging strategies for airway management.
