Typical Use
Provide positive pressure ventilation in respiratory arrest or insufficiency.
Description
A handheld self inflating bag with an attached face mask used to deliver positive pressure ventilation to patients who are apneic or hypoventilating. It allows a rescuer to manually ventilate the lungs while maintaining a seal over the nose and mouth and can be connected to supplemental oxygen to increase delivered oxygen concentration. The device is essential in emergency, prehospital, and perioperative settings for short term respiratory support and during transport. Proper technique, mask seal, and monitoring of chest rise are required to avoid gastric insufflation and to ensure effective ventilation.
