Category
Endovascular Therapeutic
Typical Use
Mechanically remove thrombus from arteries or veins to restore flow.
Description
Catheter based devices designed to extract or aspirate thrombus from occluded vessels in acute ischemic stroke, pulmonary embolism, or limb threatening arterial occlusion, providing rapid reperfusion when pharmacologic thrombolysis is insufficient or contraindicated. Thrombectomy systems include aspiration catheters, stent retrievers, and combined approaches, and require skilled operators, imaging guidance, and careful patient selection to maximize benefit and minimize vessel injury or distal embolization. Postprocedure care includes anticoagulation management, monitoring for reperfusion injury, and rehabilitation planning in neurologic cases to optimize functional recovery.
