Typical Use
Transmit exhaled gas to capnography for EtCO2 measurement.
Description
A narrow bore sampling line that connects between the airway device mask, endotracheal tube, or tracheostomy and the capnograph to continuously aspirate a small volume of exhaled gas for analysis, enabling real time waveform generation and numeric EtCO2 reporting. Sampling lines are available in mainstream and sidestream configurations and must be selected and maintained according to device compatibility, humidity conditions, and duration of use to prevent clogging and inaccurate readings. Regular replacement, attention to condensation, and calibration of the capnograph are necessary to maintain measurement fidelity, and clinicians must correlate EtCO2 trends with clinical events such as changes in ventilation, perfusion, or metabolic status. Use of sampling lines is standard in anesthesia, emergency airway management, and procedural sedation to confirm ventilation and detect early deterioration.
