Wound Closure
Typical Use
Approximate wound edges noninvasively.
Description
Adhesive strips used to approximate small lacerations or reinforce suture lines, providing a noninvasive method of wound closure that reduces tension on sutures and can improve cosmetic outcomes for superficial wounds. Steri Strips are applied after wound cleaning and approximation and are useful in pediatric patients or in areas where suture removal is difficult; they fall off as the wound heals or are removed in follow up. Proper application requires dry skin, correct alignment of wound edges, and avoidance of excessive moisture to maintain adhesion. They are an adjunct to sutures or staples and are not suitable for deep or heavily contaminated wounds that require layered closure.
