Point of Care Testing
Typical Use
Screen urine for glucose, protein, blood, and infection markers.
Description
A disposable reagent strip with multiple pads that change color in the presence of analytes such as glucose, protein, blood, nitrite, and leukocyte esterase, providing rapid bedside screening for urinary tract infection, renal disease, and metabolic abnormalities. Dipstick results are qualitative or semi quantitative and should be interpreted in the context of clinical presentation and confirmatory laboratory testing when indicated; factors such as urine concentration and interfering substances can affect accuracy. Urine dipstick testing is widely used in outpatient, emergency, and inpatient settings for quick assessment and triage, and positive findings often prompt microscopic urinalysis and culture. Proper specimen collection, timing, and adherence to manufacturer instructions improve test reliability.
