Retraction
Typical Use
Expose surgical field by holding back tissue.
Description
A handheld retractor commonly used in open abdominal and thoracic procedures to hold back soft tissue and provide exposure of deeper structures, available in multiple sizes and curvatures to match surgical needs. The Richardson retractor is versatile for assistant held retraction and is often used in combination with self retaining retractors for prolonged exposure. Proper retraction technique balances adequate visualization with avoidance of excessive pressure that can cause tissue ischemia or nerve injury. After use, retractors are cleaned and sterilized and inspected for structural integrity to ensure safe reuse.
