Typical Use
Assess middle ear compliance and Eustachian tube function.
Description
A device that varies air pressure in the external auditory canal while measuring tympanic membrane mobility to detect middle ear effusion, tympanic membrane perforation, or ossicular fixation, commonly used in pediatric and ENT evaluations. Tympanometry provides objective data on middle ear status and complements otoscopy and audiometry in diagnosing otitis media and conductive hearing loss. Proper probe fit, calibration, and interpretation of tympanogram types A, B, C are essential to avoid misclassification and to guide management such as medical therapy or referral for tympanostomy tubes.
